What a wonderful first day of 4th grade we had! The kids were nothing short of AMAZING! I'm so happy to have each one of them in class this year. We got right to work today! After Community Prayer we had a math lesson :) The kids worked in pairs to roll dice to make arrays on their graph paper. After ten rounds, they added their products together and who ever had the largest number was the winner. After this game we related the arrays we drew on graph paper to area! We then practiced finding area. There is math homework- a worksheet finding area. Answers may be written inside the shapes or on the back of the paper.
Our read aloud for the next few weeks will be Because of Winn Dixie. We are reading an excerpt in our Journeys book this week, and no one had read the novel yet. I love this book and the kids always do too! We also started our Journeys Unit 1, Lesson 1. We will start new weekly lessons every Wednesday and complete assessments by Tuesday. This is a little different than a traditional M-F schedule, but it's nice to change things up every once in a while. It also helps so that all tests aren't at the same time- Fridays! We will have spelling, but not this Friday. The kids have a homework assignment in reading as well. They are to read the main story this week, Because of Winn Dixie. The can read the story in the Journeys book (which they should have brought home) OR online. We practiced accessing the story online during computer time today. I have the link for ThinkCentral on the left of the blog. Usernames and passwords are written in their planners.
The kids worked on a prerequisite math test as well today. This is a test that tells me what they retained from 3rd grade. While I grade the test, it's not a factor in their math grade. The informations just for my planning purposes.
We labeled some folders and started the cover page of our science notebook today. Pick up went very smoothly, thank you to everyone who used their colored name tags!
