It's our first full week of school and we're off to a busy start!  Today was the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, so we started religion discussing what this means and why Mary would be assumed to heaven.  We also started reading about Adam and Eve.  While this is a story many are familiar with, we begin with Adam and Eve again and then follow their descendants through the Old Testament.

We completed a beginning of the year assessment in math and worked on area some more today.  The hold up seems to be the multiplication facts.  Please practice basic facts with your children each evening if they don't have a firm grasp yet.

We spent quite a bit of time on our first official science lesson today.  We are starting a unit on soil, landforms, and rocks.  We started by observing 4 different types of soil in dry and wet conditions.  The kids will work in groups during science and use their notebook to record their observations and respond to essential questions.  The did great!  You may notice some dusty shirts because our soil had clay in it and it was too tempting for the kids to just dig right in with their hands :)

We worked on grammar this afternoon.  We took notes on subject and predicate in our grammar notebook and then completed some practice together, as well as independent practice.  Tonight's homework is to complete reader's notebook (workbook) page 6 and to write the spelling words in the planner.  There will be a spelling test on Friday.  We don't have a pre-test, just one test on Friday.

Tomorrow we will have PE.  Changing for PE is optional.  Tuesday's PE is at 1:20, so we don't put the school uniform back on after PE.  If your child is changing for PE, please put uniform in a gallon size Ziplock with their name.

I have some videos that I want to post to Youtube for your viewing only.  I'm trying to figure out how to invite you to my channel.  I'm keeping it private and only those invited (you parents) can view videos.  If you have any idea of how to do that, please let me know!  Otherwise, I'll play around till I figure it out and let you know when you can view our videos.

Just a reminder- Curriculum Night is Wednesday!  Adults only :)
