THANK YOU 4th GRADE!  We are in the lead for per lap donations for the Fun Run :)  Thank you for all your support for ACS.  The kids received their t-shirts today.  Most of them fit "just perfectly", so I do not suggest drying them tonight :)  Students may wear athletic shorts (the length of the PE shorts) or PE shorts and the fun run t-shirt and tennis shoes.  Please apply sunscreen as it's going to be sunny!  The run starts at 9:30.

We wrapped up our language arts lessons today and only have our spelling test for tomorrow!

We also set up a chemical reaction experiment for science.  Tonight the homework is to read page 6-8 in the science reader.

Happy Monday!  It's Fun Run Week!  If you've not signed up online, please do so!  We're enjoying our daily assembly to learn about being good citizens and getting pumped up for the event on Friday!

We were busy getting all set to start our third trimester! We got new seats and lockers today :)

The kids were responsible for reading our new Journeys story today.  They could choose to silently read or listen to the story online.  We will still discuss the story together as a class, however, as the third trimester continues we are going to be practicing more independent work as we prep for 5th grade!  Spelling test will be on Friday.

We started geometry in math today- lines and angles!  The kids are enjoying it so far!

We learned more about the 5th commandment today in religion.

Tomorrow morning is community prayer, with our fun run assembly right after!

Welcome back from a long weekend!  The kids were ready to get to work today and we had a fantastic day!  We started reading one of my favorite stories in Journeys, Hercules' Quest.  This is a Greek myth, and we had fun talking about other mythical characters too!  Spelling test will be on Friday- the next ten states and capitals.  Tonight's homework is to read the story and complete the plot chart.

We reviewed divisions in math- talk about moaning and groaning :)  We clearly need some more practice!

We had a great time starting our new science unit today.- soil, rocks, and landforms! Today the groups observed different soil samples.  We then added water and will observe how the particles have settled tomorrow.

The kids worked hard on our language arts centers today!  We practiced vocabulary, adverbs, and suffixes in small groups!

In math today we practiced multiplication of two and three digit numbers.  It's been a while since we've worked with numbers this large, and it was a great review!

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day!  Remember that if your child would like to hand out valentines, they need to have one for everyone in the class.  We have 25 kids.

We will begin our new science unit on soil next week, so today we started a video about soil to get us in the mindset :)

For religion we discussed ways we could honor God in mass more.  We are going to work on our behavior when walking to communion, genuflecting, and actively participating!

A class list went home with the kids today for Valentines.  We will celebrate on Thursday afternoon, with just a small little celebration and valentine exchange.

The kids played a fun suffix board game this morning and we reviewed adverbs.  Tonight's homework is lang arts IXL JJ.5 and JJ.6 (adverb practice).

We wrapped up Chapter 9 in math today with the test!  The kids have done a really nice job with chapter 9.  We will spend the next two days before President's Weekend reviewing multiplication and division of large numbers.

We started reading about the first commandment today and took notes and discussed different types of prayer- meditation, vocal, and contemplative.

At the end of the day the kids typed friendly letters to a classmate.  I assigned them someone to write to, and that person will respond when they get the letter.  We are focusing on friendly letters that are conversational instead of either a list of personal facts or just a list of questions!

We were all thrilled to find out that our new novels arrived this weekend! We got right to work reading a loud this morning!

We are going to complete a weekly lesson in Journeys this week and have our spelling test on Thursday.  Today the kids read about a service dog and completed a sequence of events activity based on the story.  They also typed their simile and metaphor descriptive paragraphs.

We worked on comparing decimals in math today. Math homework is the chapter 9 extra practice page.

We had a safety assembly this afternoon.  Mrs. Sposi informed us about the procedures in the event of a campus evacuation.  We will practice one of this next month- more detailed information to come!

I'm back!  The kids worked quite hard in my absence and we had a nice day moving forward!  We started our day by finishing our novel, Space Case.  As I mentioned, the kids loved it and no one guessed who the villain was!  Enzo informed us that there are 2 more books in the series, so they are ordered and will be here on Saturday, ready for us to start reading on Monday :)

We reviewed adjectives and figurative language in language arts today.  The class is working on a descriptive paragraph that contains one simile and one metaphor.  The goal is to type the final copy tomorrow!

We pushed forward in math today, making it to the mid point of the chapter.  We also worked on our Outside of the Box pictures today.  This is when I give the kids a picture of something common, like a cloud, or a letter, and they have to tell me what it is, but it's NOT the item it looks like.  They are having a lot of fun with this.  It's a nice activity to give their creative brains a little work out!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is early release!

Wow were we busy today!  We got so much accomplished! New spelling words were assigned today- the next ten state and capital pairs on the list (with abbreviation).  We started our new story in Journeys today, Riding Freedom.  We also reviewed adjectives and discussed the order that adjectives should be in.  Homework tonight is a worksheet on personification.

The kids did great equating fractions of 10s and 100s to decimals!  Tonight's homework reinforces that skill.

We read about life in the desert in social studies this afternoon.  We found the picture from the sanitarium quite strange!!!

Scholastic Book orders due on Wednesday.  See left side of blog for Valentine's Day update.
